FOLLOW OUR JOURNEY - ORIGINS
Cotton is a natural, biodegradable, and recylable fiber with properties such as insulation, expulsion of heat, and absoprtion or humidity. The traditional cotton used in our PONCHO collection is grown in Pakistan and collected by machines.
After being picked form the field, the cotton is dried and cleaned to achive better quality. Using premium machines called strippers, the seeds and any other foreign material are removed and the cotton is stored before being sent to the textile mill.
Once the cotton reaches the mill (location), the fiber is put into machines X and spun…
Our partner in Barcelona, Gonclovil, uses a flat weaving technique, in which the threads are interwoven at right angles to each other, those running the length of the fabric interweaving with those running the width creating a finished fabric.
Once the fabric is made, it sent for dyeing (location). We use reactive dyes which are non-toxic and result to less residual substances. The entire process uses 90% less chemicals and overall less water than traditional dyeing techniques and the water can be recycled and reused.
The OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificates gives the green light that our reactive dyes have been tested for over 300 harmful substances and have passed with flying colors!
After being dyed, the fabric is sent to our manufacturer, Espinoza Textile in Madrid, Spain. To ensure zero waste, they make the garment pattern digitally. Before being cut and sewn, the fabric is left to rest for approximately 1 day to avoid shrinkage.
A piece of fabric is sent to Bordados Delcón in Madrid, Spain to be embroidered and then sent back to Espinoza to finish the poncho.
Our committment to conscious fashion, does not only stop with the final garment. We also apply it to our packaging. Our bags are 100% compostable sachet (80% PBAT and 20% PLA). They can be composted in your home or at a composting facility in your area. We use inner textile labels? Our exterior labels are from 100% recycled cardboard. Our sturdy Jute cord is made with natural fibers and is 100% biodegradable
The AS 4736 Compostable certificate verifies certain materials made of plastics as compostable or biodegradable under industrial conditions.
The HOME COMPOSTABLE logo let´s you know that our packaging can be composted a home back into water, carbon dioxide (CO2) and biomass, and will be non-toxic to the environment. The entireprocess takes180 days, approximately 6 months.
Finished and packaged garments are sent to the warehouse of Looper Logistics in Madrid Spain, packaged once more to ensure ultimate protection and added a special thank you note to our Ocean Warriors!
